CORNHUSKER MARCHING BAND - ALL SECTIONS
The Band Camp Form must be submitted by July 21
Due to construction and the availability of Kimball Recital Hall, instruments will not be available until after August 5th. We apologize for the inconvenience.
All CMB instruments and color guard equipment are a mandatory rental.
CLARINET, SAXOPHONES, TRUMPET, AND TROMBONES will not be issued until AFTER the final roster has been posted. Please bring your personal instrument to use for the second round audition. If you do not own an instrument, please indicate on the Band Camp Form. The Leadership will receive instructions for the distribution of these instruments during the week of Band Camp.
Color Guard silks and poles will be assigned and distributed by the section leadership at the beginning of Band Camp. Equipment will not be issued unless the Band Camp Form has been submitted.
INSTRUMENTS will be available during the first week of August ONLY IF the Band Camp Form is submitted by July 22. If the form is submitted after July 22, the instrument will be available after August 7.
A NOTE ABOUT LOCKERS: There is a major shortage of lockers in the new Westbrook Music Building. The majority of lockers will be located in the renovated south wing of old Westbrook which will not be available until the end of December 2025. We are working on a solution for marching band instrument storage. It's highly likely there will be several instruments stored in one room accessible via NCard. There is also a good chance of locker buddies. Please be patient as we work through the locker situation this semester.
Rental fees will be applied to your student account and will appear on your billing statement ONLY if you are on the final roster. Instruments and equipment are not available for checkout at any time outside of the marching band season. University instruments and equipment are to be used for Cornhusker Marching Band (CMB) or Big Red Express (BRE) events and performances ONLY. University instruments may not be used for non-university performances, auditions, employment, or activities. Instruments are available for the second round audition on a first-come, first-served basis while supplies last.
Your My.UNL ID is required to log onto the Band Camp Form. Click on the link below if you are a new student who needs to activate your account for the first time.

NOTE: Concert instruments and lockers are to be rented through the GKSOM Facilities Office, WMB 114C (Library). The GKSOM INSTRUMENT AND LOCKER RENTAL REQUEST Form may be found HERE.
Instrument and Equipment Checkout Policy
Students must be enrolled in the marching band course meeting the full-time student status before an instrument or color guard equipment will be assigned. Instruments and lockers will be assigned on a first-come, first-served basis while supplies last.
INSTRUMENTS: A locker number and combination will be included in a confirmation email sent the first week in August. Once you receive the confirmation email you may access the instrument in your assigned locker during regular Westbrook Music Building hours. Please be patient and wait for the email as it may not arrive immediately on August 1. If you submitted the form by July 22 and have not received an email by August 5, please check your spam folder before contacting the Band Office. If the instrument request has been submitted after July 22, you will receive the email sometime after August 5 depending on when the request was submitted.
Please Note:
- Trumpet players are required to use a Bach 3C mouthpiece (provided).
- Mellophones are to use horn mouthpieces (adapter provided).
- Mouthpieces may be included with the instrument, however, if you are particular about your mouthpiece, it is best to use your own. Please indicate on the Band Camp Form whether or not you require a mouthpiece.
- Saxophone players must provide their own neck strap.
- You must provide valve oil, key oil, slide cream, rotor oil, etc., and a cleaning cloth for the proper maintenance and care of the instrument.
- Please keep a towel or soft cloth in the instrument case at all times and wipe down instrument after each use.
Instrument/Equipment and Locker Check-in Due Date
Check-in instructions will be emailed and posted on Canvas towards the end of the semester. The due date is determined by participation in the CMB and the spring semester of the Big Red Express (BRE) as follows:
- CMB only - December 12, 2025*
- CMB and the spring semester BRE - May 1, 2026
*The due date will be adjusted in the event the CMB has post season travel obligations (B1G Championship and/or bowl game). The adjusted due date will be emailed and posted on Canvas. NOTE: Late fees will be applied to your student bill if the instrument, equipment and/or locker are not returned according to instructions and by the appropriate due date.
BIG RED EXPRESS (BRE): Those who are also members of the spring semester of BRE have the option of renting the instrument and/or locker for the entire academic year.
